Our grandparents believed they had definitively driven it out of our mountains, but no, the wolf has come back and reconquered the Alps bit by bit leaving a nasty trail of carnage behind him. But today, this fearsome carnivore is untouchable. It is protected by the International Bern Convention and French law. We, humans, find ourselves forced to be as gentle as lambs with this wild animal. Being gentle with him often means being harsh with our fellow man, as this beast has sown discord and hate among us.
