Filmed during the rehearsals for NAWBA MAZMUM by the Albaycin Ensemble, this musical documentary centers on the apprenticeship and construction of Arab-Andalousian music in France. Rachid Guerbas, the master of the Ensemble and music professor for young musicians is our guide into the universe of this ancient music. Alterning free and measured movements, repertories from Algiers and Tlemcen, the NAWBA MAZMUM unveils the wealth of this music’s poetic and love songs, a music which developed in the Iberian peninsula, and which was exiled to North Africa when Grenada fell in 1492….
