October 1, 2000, An Oriant, the trawler from Lorient, France, sank off the coast of Ireland. The boat foundered in a matter of minutes. The eight men aboard were never found. More than two years after the tragedy, like an ill-chosen police investigation without a body or a guilty party, but with the survivors and families of those who disappeared, we will work our way through the story from the Irish sea to the port in Lorient, France to try to understand through interviews and scenes from daily life how rituals help work through the mourning for those who disappear at sea.
