Music According to Deben Bhattacharya

A film by Stéphane Jourdain

Deben Bhattacharya spent his life on the road recording music in dozens of countries, in hundreds of cities and towns and making records. He was neither a scientist, nor a dilettante: simply a man eager for knowledge, with an exacerbated sensitivity and penchant for wandering. By the mid-80’s, he had accumulated over 800 hours of recordings, 16,000 photographs, made 23 films and published around 15 books. The film is constructed around Deben Bhattacharya’s return to Bangladesh, the country of his origins. Always on the road between north and south, we are witnessing his extraordinary journey whereas he shows us little by little his inher world maded of faces, travels and music.

The Punkt Festival in Kristiansand (Norway) is based on a live remix experience. Every concert is immediately followed by its remixed performance by other guest musicians. Indeed, the music first heard in its live original form resurfaces consequently anew, with improvisation and surprise.
